Well after my rear American classic hub broke I decided to see if it could be fixed. I bought a new freehub and cam plate from them directly and put my hub back together. It seems to be working great so far. The hub is very lightweight because they use an aluminum freehub which is very soft. I rode on it once and the cassette I was using notched it up. I did buy a new wheelset on ebay but the rear hub seems to need some work! It would have been nice to know before I bought it - "lightly ridden, less than 100 miles" - yeah right. At least the front wheel was working fine, weighed less than my American Classic front, and they also came with discs and cassette. Now my front spokes don't rub the brake caliper. So in summary these are the latest on the 29r:
Rear wheel hub replaced
Front Bontrager Race disc wheel
New Kenda Karma Tires - very light at 515 g each - worked great on the ride today
Shimano XT 11-34 cassette with spacer on rear - Lost the lockring spacer
So after all these fixes, manipulations and upgrades, the bike is in the 24 lb range. More on the side of 25 lbs but still under. Not too shabby for an aluminum frame 29r. :)
